Environmental Emergency is a term coined by National Green Tribunal (NGT) recently.
Environmental Emergency is a situation when:
1. The concentration of PM10 (Particulate Matter-10) in the environment exceeds the value of 500 microgram/cubic metre
2. When the concentration of PM2.5 in the environment exceeds the value of 300 microgram/cubic metre.
The Environmental Emergency was coined in wake of high-level of pollution in Delhi-NCR region recently.
NGT asked the near-by states & NCT to:
1. Temporarily stop the burning of wastes, biomass, etc.
2. Halt the construction activities in the region.
And to implement several other measures to bring back the concentration of PM in environment to normal levels.
