PM Modi’s visit to Tokyo, Japan marked the signing of the historic Indo-Japan Civil Nuclear Deal.
Why is the Indo-Japan Nuclear Deal is being considered as historic?
1. First Country:
India has become the 1st country to have inked a civil nuclear deal despite not being a signatory to NPT (Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty).
2. Entry to NSG:
It would communicate a message of trust in global arena regarding peaceful use of nuclear energy by India thus strengthening the hopes of entry of India to NSG (Nuclear Supplier’s Group). Japan will support the cause of Entry of India to NSG.
3. Technology of Japan.
Japanese nuclear energy technology is considered to be cutting-edge. So, it would be very beneficial for Indian Reactors.
P.S. 1. Japan reserves the right to nullify the civil nuclear deal in case India tries to use it for building nuclear weapons or conducting nuclear tests.
P.S. 2. It would facilitate Energy Security in India by the development of Nuclear Power Projects.
