What is the need of National Testing Agency (NTA)?
The General Budget of the year 2017-18 proposes to set up the National Testing Agency (NTA) which would be an autonomous & self-sustained institution to conduct all entrance examinations to the higher education.
# What does this means?
After the NTA comes into picture the entrance examinations to the higher education will be undertaken by the NTA.
JEE- Main : for admission to engineering colleges,
CTET: Central Teacher Eligibility Test for appointment of teachers,
UGC- NET: National Eligibility Test for UGC for appointing college professors,
etc. are conducted by the CBSE.
# Need for NTA?
□ Once the NTA starts functioning, the institutions presently responsible for the conduction of examinations for admissions to higher educations will be relieved of this responsibility & hence they will be able to focus more on academics.
□ NTA will be an autonomous body responsible for the conduction of IIT, NEET, NET & other exams.
□ It will ensure an uniform examination for admission in multiple branches of higher education & hence will reduce the stress on students.
□ It will also reduce the overburden of conduction of examinations to higher education from CBSE, AICTE, etc. & hence will enable them to focus on their primary objectives.
