How to get into research in India?
One way to get into research in India is by going for post-graduation & then appearing becoming JRF (Junior Research Fellow) & SRF (Senior Research Fellow).
Another way is by first doing extensive research by yourself (giving approx. 1 year for learning about area of research).
Next step is to prepare a report on your research done so far specifying your findings. Convert the report into pdf file.
√ Contact a Prof: Once you are done with your report, mail it to Professors from IITs/NITs/IISERs/IISc/TISS or any other reputed institution doing research in the same area.
√ Take care of your First Impression: Professors are very busy folks & are very particular about perfection. So, your e-mail must be perfect & should exhibit your extreme willingness to work with the Prof. you are mailing to. It is better to do a quick research about the Prof. It will help you in drafting your mail better. It would be too good if you could read some of the research papers published by the Prof.
√ Do not contact again & again: do not contact the same Prof. again and again or spam their mailbox with your e-mails. It gives a very bad impression. Give it a try only twice. May be with an interval of 6 months.
Alternatively, keep an eye on the websites of IITs/NITs/IISERs, etc. for the post of Project Associate.
Opportunities: in most cases, the vacancies are temporary in nature i.e. last till the completion of the project & the tenure depends directly on the Prof. (i.e. you can be terminated at any point of time or your tenure can be extended by the Prof).
√ If you work-hard & dedicatedly then Prof. may give an opportunity to work in some other project.
√ Experience is vital. Based upon your experience you can apply to other universities/colleges
