Proof that you have to be aggressive in UPSC CSE prelims.

Proof that you have to be aggressive in UPSC CSE prelims.

The cut off marks for the UPSC CSE prelims 2016 have been released officially by the UPSC.

For General Category it is 116.0 marks out of 200.

Eacg question in GS is of 2 marks so with 100% accuracy you have to attempt 58 questions out of 100.

Last year (2015) the cut off was around 107. So, this time, an increase of 9 marks.

>> Why you have to be aggressive?

In UPSC, many questions will be on “things that you won’t have any clue about”. At least 10% of the paper falls in that category (*irrespective of the level of your preparation). Then, many questions will be such that you would “get confused & will end up getting – ve marking”. So, being on defensive mode might not work well for you.

So, a good strategy is, “not just being accurate but also take chance/risk in few of the questions”. You have to attempt more questions in order to clear prelims.

75-80 questions would be a good attempt out of 100. Less than that might push your dreams ahead by 1 year. If you have accuracy of 70-80%, you can then go for attempting all the 100 questions.
